About Thee Conductor and “Ennoia”:

Aged, wrinkled and clocking in at just under the big 5-0, Jason Butler was-has been busy writing and recording a new record titled “Ennoia” over the last three years. Continuing his work as Thee Conductor, the list of players and singers are paired down on this one, showing a stronger cohesion and focus, a precise lyrical and sonic reflection of Butler’s inner workings. “This record is the most ‘me’ I have yet to do,” said Butler.

All songs are sung beautifully by the wonderful Bonnie “Prince” Billy (Will Oldham). Bonnie’s emotive-textured-vulnerable voice instrument pairs perfectly with the words written by Butler. A unique partnership between voice and lyrics, honest and poignant. Butler also enlisted Mr. Glenn Kotche (Wilco) on two of the tracks. The first, a wild percussive ride with sounds of Kalimba recorded by Kotche between Wilco soundchecks while on tour, a drum kit and other various toys. Mr. Kevin Shea also accompanies on this track, weaving in and out of controlled mania. The second song is a softly textured, measured and grounded pulse that pushes to the front Butler’s words along with Mr. Oldham’s voice. Justin Douglas (King Electric Recording) and Christopher Cox (arrangements) play vital roles and are considered partners in the makeup of Thee Conductor. “Ennoia” was mastered by Will Oldham’s brother Paul Oldham, and the album art was inspired by the serene land and woods Butler now lives on in Elgin, TX. Other notable guests featured on the record include the Tosca String Quartet (known for their work with David Byrne), Jeremy Lemos and Delaine Leonard.
