The Adderley Repertory Ensemble has announced its performance of “Hairspray” slated for Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5 at the Stateside Theatre at the Paramount.
(AUSTIN, TEXAS – May 31, 2016) – Janet Adderley, the founder and CEO of Adderley School of the Performing Arts, handpicked a talented cast of children ages 6-14 from Austin for the ensemble’s performance. Set against the backdrop of 1960’s Baltimore, “Hairspray” offers audiences important messages about self-acceptance, racism and learning not to judge others by their appearance. Ms. Adderley said, “We selected ‘Hairspray’ for our production knowing that these messages have only become more poignant in the world of today.” As is the case with all Adderley productions, it will be performed in its entirety by the youth ensemble cast, supported by a professional orchestra and Broadway-style set design.
And lastly, swap out Janet’s second quote for this: “Alana and I are over joyed and humbled by the amazing welcome that we have received,” said Janet Adderley. “Austin is chocked full of passionate, talented, glorious children who come to us from the most giving, gracious, kind parents.”
For the past year, the Adderley School has provided an artistic and theatrical outlet for children as young as three to have the chance to perform scenes and musical numbers from numerous, beloved productions, such as “The Lion King,” “Frozen,” “Cinderella” and “The Wizard of Oz,” to name a few. The school provides young children the opportunity to explore their creativity and establish confidence in themselves. Led by founder and artistic director, Janet Adderley, co-artistic director, administrative director, instructor, choreographer, Alana Adderley, and musical director, band leader Akina Adderley, kids from across the city have discovered a love for the arts.
The Saturday, June 4 performance will take place at 7 p.m. and the Sunday, June 5 performances will take place at 2 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. at the Stateside Theatre at the Paramount, located at 719 Congress Ave., Austin, Texas 78701.

About The Adderley School:
The Adderley School was created in 1993 to teach children how to stand confidently in the world. With locations in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Austin, Adderley’s method of musical theatre instruction has helped thousands of toddlers, kids and teenagers find a passion for musical theatre and a belief in their own abilities. “I was born and raised in Texas,” said Janet Adderley. “My journey in life started HERE and has taken me to Yale University, a career on Broadway, roles in television and film and my greatest life’s work (outside of raising my two daughters), which is the 25 years I’ve spent empowering kids at my theatre schools in California.
Everything that I am, all that I have accomplished I owe to the training and focused mentorship I received in Texas. There are no words to express the joy I feel to be coming home to share my passion and knowledge with the next generation. Austin is an amazing place filled with the most gracious, supportive people who believe in the transformative power of music and the performing arts. I am honored to become a part of this vibrant community, to share what I’ve learned, to inspire and ignite, to ‘pass it on.’”
