(AUSTIN, TEXAS – March 19, 2018) – Care2Rock, an Austin-based online music lesson marketplace and platform dedicated to pairing up skilled music teachers with students for live, online music lessons, announces its official website launch on May 3, 2018. The social enterprise company, Care2rock.com was founded by CEO Karyn Scott and is set to become the perfect intersection of music, technology and social impact with its innovative virtual music lesson platform. Care2Rock is celebrating its official launch during National Foster Care Monthwith an invite-only VIP cocktail event on the evening of Thursday, May 3 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at The Townsend located at 717 Congress Ave., Austin, Texas 78701. Media can RSVP by contacting email@example.com. Care2Rock is also offering an invite to the launch party along with a month of free music lessonsand a brand new instrument of any kind to a limited number of customers who respond to this exclusive invitation by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with the code LAUNCH18 in the subject line.
Care2Rock offers a high-quality one-on-one online music lesson experience, with technology that produces superior audio and video and reduces latency. Live video lessons are direct browser-to-browser, with no downloads required, and can be recorded for future use by the student for lesson proficiency. Care2Rock teachers are hand-picked, vetted and background checked, ensuring a safe lesson experience for students of any age. Best of all, Care2rock teachers also agree to mentor a child in foster care – or a child who is hospitalized – for a minimum of one year for free. The site currently offers a variety of lessons, including guitar, piano, strings, percussion, brass, songwriting and woodwinds. The site can also add specialties in other instruments if someone makes a unique request.
Care2Rock is also teaming up with Texas CASA on the launch of a new program, Computers for CASA. A recent bill championed by Texas CASA allows foster youth to receive computer equipment through the state’s surplus supply. Care2Rock will be offering free lessons on the site to these Texas CASA foster children who have received computers through this program. Care2Rock hopes to eventually partner with CASA nationwide to reach more children in care.
“We are excited to revolutionize music education by offering a live video conference lesson experience like nothing else on the market for paying customers, while also bringing free music lessons to youth in foster care across the country,” said Karyn Scott, CEO. “Our teachers have toured with famous artists like Kiss and Bruce Springsteen, have written and produced many hit songs, and have been finalists on American Idol. You can book and begin your lesson at the touch of a button, while helping bring lessons to a child in need who otherwise has no access to music. It is my goal to eventually reach thousands of kids in foster care – and eventually hospitals – through Care2rock.com‘s social impact model,” said Scott. “By choosing Care2rock for you or your child’s lessons, you can play a role in improving kids’ lives everywhere.”
In 2009, Karyn Scott founded Kids in a New Groove, a successful Austin non-profit which provides free music mentorship to youth in foster care. The program boasted a 100% high school graduation rate for program participants. But after seeing the enthusiasm with music teachers looking for meaningful work – and noticing a lack of affordable music lessons with quality teachers – she came up with the idea for Care2Rock. Care2Rock is a mission-driven social enterprise that offers live one-on-one music lessons for paying customers, but allows teachers to volunteer for kids in foster care for free utilizing Care2Rock’s high-tech video conference platform. Teachers at Care2Rock are changing the world, one life at a time.
Karyn Scott worked as a prosecutor for five years, seeing the plight of youth in care firsthand during her time in juvenile court. Noticing a lack of community resources for children in need that could keep those children from falling through the cracks, Karyn decided to create an alternative route that would allow youths to connect with musicians and learn music. This would become Kids in a New Groove, a successful nonprofit that proved music can change outcomes for children in foster care. Karyn soon became interested in social entrepreneurship and saw a way to expand growth and become self-sufficient, leading to the development of Care2Rock. Karyn’s past philanthropic work with children in need has been featured in multiple publications such as Austin Family, Austin Magazine and in global press such as Huffington Post.
